Walkley Horticultural Society is set to re-instate an event that was first launched in 1881, to give the residents of Walkley the opportunity to showcase the fruits of their labours.

Walkley Horticultural Show will be held next month at St Mary’s Community Hall on South Road.

There will be several categories available for fruits and vegetables, flowers, cakes and jams, as well as several junior categories that are open to children.

The show will be officially opened, at 10.30am on September 3, by the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Coun Denise Fox. It has been 20 years since the last Horticultural Show was held in Walkley

The day will include a number of side events, games and competitions - including the popular ‘Draw a Scarecrow Face’ competition - which are open to all on the day.

Entry is open to anyone who lives or works within Walkley and entry forms, along with the rules and regulations, are available to pick up from Beech’s, Gerry’s or Walkley library.

You can also email walkleyhorticulturalshow@virginmedida.com or julie_clarke@blueyonder.co.uk to get a copy sent to you.

Closing dates for all entries is August 26.

The show will run until 3pm and admission is free.
