Horse box set alight in suspected arson attack

Fire crews were called out to deal with a blazing horse box which had been set alight deliberately.

The box was parked on Carr Lane, Ulley, Rotherham, when it was targeted by an arsonist.

A fire service spokeswoman said there were no horses in the box at the time of the blaze.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus put out the fire.

The incident was reported at 12.30am yesterday.

In a separate incident, South Yorkshire fire crews were called out to assist after a lorry got into difficulties on the M1.

A crew from Aston Park station was dispatched at 12.15am yesterday after reports the HGV’s tyres had over-heated and were smoking on the motorway between junctions 30 and 31.
