Hope of an early end to roadworks traffic delays

A MAJOR road project in South Yorkshire which has caused traffic disruption for nearly a year could soon be finished.

Work on rebuilding the Todwick Road railway bridge at Dinnington was due to be completed towards the end of September.

Most of the work on the bridge structure is finished and the remainder of the work will be on the highway over the bridge and the surfacing of Dinnington Road and Todwick Road.

The road will remain closed but a temporary footbridge is expected to be removed by the end of this month.

Work began on the bridge last year after the council's civil engineers decided it needed upgrading. The regeneration of the nearby former Dinnington Colliery site into a business park has led to a big increase in traffic using the bridge

Funding for the bridge work has been met by the South Yorkshire Local Transport Plan Partnership and Yorkshire Forward.
