Two Sheffield singers have been honoured for helping to preserve the male voice choir tradition in South Yorkshire.

Alan Hobson, a former chairman and secretary of Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir, and Ian Pasley, secretary of Worrall Male Voice Choir, were both instrumental in helping to set up a new male ensemble which attracted more than 40 members and performed several concerts.

As planned, the new ensemble disbanded after a year and the new singers joined the Bolsterstone and Worrall choirs as part of a recruitment drive.

Bolsterstone chairman Roger Pont presented them with glass tankards and said: “New membership is vital to male voice choirs.

“Without it, the movement faces extinction and Alan and Ian committed themselves 110 per cent to the new choir.”

Both choirs are always seeking new members. Call Roger on 0114 2304277.
