Honorary doctorate for founder of Sheffield charity

The founder and Chief Executive of South Yorkshire dementia charity Lost Chord has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Sheffield.

Lost Chord provides interactive musical experiences for people living with dementia in care homes and day centres.

Helena Muller set up the charity in 1999 after her younger sister, Annette, suffered a brain haemorrhage and one of the few things she could recall were old Motown hits of her youth.

She said: “I am proud of everybody who is working with Lost Chord and proud to think that we are making a very real difference to so many lives, for anybody who has ever seen a Lost Chord concert will tell you that the power of music is truly extraordinary in the way that it touches lives.”
