Homes raided in South Yorkshire town following shootings involving warring groups

Homes have been raided in a South Yorkshire town following two shootings between two rival groups.

Police officers have been grated warrants to search a number of properties in Mexborough over recent days in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour, criminal damage and violence involving two warring group[.

Extra police patrols have also been carried out in the Schofield Street area of the town.

Last week there shootings in Frederick Street and Victoria Road.

Superintendent Natalie Shaw, from South Yorkshire Police, said: “As we continue to stress to the public of Doncaster, we will not let the actions of a few individuals have an adverse or negative impact on the wider community.

“We are aware that in the last couple of weeks there have been a number of reports of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage, including a couple of reported gunfire incidents.

“Incidents like this are concerning and distressing for the wider community but I would like to reassure you that they appear to be targeted attacks between two groups and a number of those involved are now in prison.

“Regardless, this behaviour is completely unacceptable and we will take robust action against any individual found to be taking part in these crimes.

“We have a continued, increased police presence in the area, including extra officers on patrol and various other police resources that have been deployed into the town, to be able to immediately respond should any incidents occur and be available to offer assistance to the public.

“We are determined to make Mexborough a safer place to live, work and visit.”
