Home runner Joe wins Harry Whitehurst Memorial 10k as part of the Sheffield Open Cross Country Races

Sheffield Running Club athlete Joe Sweetnam-Powell won this year's Harry Whitehurst Memorial 10k as part of the Sheffield Open Cross Country Races held in Graves Park on Saturday.

He held off a strong challenge from Leeds City AC’s Nick Hooker to win in 35 minutes and 5 seconds for the 10km course.

Rotherham Harriers’ Fiona Davies ran away from the Ladies field to win by almost a minute in 25 minutes and 29 seconds for the 6.5km course.

There were age group wins for Hallamshire’s Jaime Sharp (Under 11 girls), Cosmo Johnson (Under 11 boys), Emma Shipley (Under 13 girls), William Burton (Under 15 boys), with Rotherham Harriers’ Joshua Wragg (Under 13 boys), City of Sheffield’s Resian Morris (Under 15 girls), Chesterfield AC’s Alex Ediker (Under 17 Men) and Sheffield RC’s Abigail Knight (Under 20 women) being the other local winners.
