Prime Minister David Cameron has said the Home Office has been asked to support victims of the Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal.

He has written to Sarah Champion, who is defending the seat of Rotherham in the general election for Labour, to say the Home Office has in particular been asked to look at how different agencies work together to tackle the problem after the Jay report revealed 1,400 victims had been abused while authorities turned a blind eye.

Work is also underway to find a suitable site to put a central point of contact for victims in Rotherham, he said.

Ms Champion said she was ‘happy real inroads are now being made.’
