The project, which began in January, will see 330 homes fitted with external wall insulation on behalf of St Leger Homes.

Alan and Geraldine Batey, who moved to their bungalow in Mexborough eight years ago, are among the first residents to receive the energy efficient improvements.

Geraldine said: “We love living here in Mexborough, even more so now our house has been transformed. We have already noticed a big saving on our heating bills and our home is now like a sauna in comparison to what it was like before.”

Site Manager Wayne Fairhurst said: “We are delighted that Alan and Geraldine are pleased with the works we have carried out to their property on behalf of St Leger. The work has made a huge difference to the people living in them, who now have warmer homes which are cheaper to heat.”

Mick Werritt, Director of Property Services for St Leger Homes, said: “This is a great scheme. Not only are we improving the quality of tenants homes, we are also helping reduce energy costs.”
