History in the making as hundreds of visitors go back in time

HUNDREDS of local history enthusiasts turned up in an event designed to highlight South Yorkshire's rich heritage.

Celebrating South Yorkshire - held at Wentworth Mechanics Institute - gave visitors the chance to find out more about the region’s history.

There was also the opportunity to find out about local industries, including a display of pottery made at a number of factories in the Mexborough and Swinton areas in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Organiser Ken Wyatt, a Swinton councillor and local history enthusiast, said: “This year’s event brought together a really good mix of organisations from right across the county.

“There was something of interest for everyone, ranging from industrial, family and local history.”
