Historic hall’s green project

HARDWICK Hall is set to become more eco-friendly after investing a £50,000 lottery grant into a new green energy project.

The grant, from the Big Lottery Fund, is being used to install a biomass boiler at the Elizabethan estate near Chesterfield, which will heat a restaurant, shop and community space.

The boiler will be installed and commissioned by August 2011, and its energy consumption will be monitored and displayed to the public to show the savings that are being made.

Hardwick is hosting a special event on Sunday, August 28 called Go Green, where visitors can tour the new facility.

The project is part of a major regeneration of the hall’s stableyard buildings, which is due to be completed next year.
