Highly skill jobs a Sheffield strength

Job creation was particularly high among the high and medium skilled. There was a 6.2 per cent rate in the highly skilled workforce and a 5.6 per cent rate in the medium skilled category.

The number of jobs for low skilled workers was down 1.6 per cent.

York had the region’s highest concentration of highly skilled jobs with 47 per cent of employment in this category.

Sheffield, Huddersfield and Leeds also had rates of more than 40 per cent in the highly skilled category.

Scunthorpe has the highest percentage of low-skilled jobs at 43.8 per cent.

The North West continues to have higher than average levels of jobs growth, according to the figures from NatWest’s Regional Economic Tracker, which shows that the new number of people in employment across the region has risen by 3.2 per cent in the 12 months up to December 2015.

Jobs creation was particularly prevalent among highly-skilled and low-skilled workers with a 5.6 per cent rate in the highly skilled workforce and a 3.4 per cent rate in the low-skilled category.

The percentage of jobs for medium-skilled workers also increased by 1.4 per cent.

Chester has the highest percentage of highly-skilled jobs growth at 48.6 per cent and Manchester trailed just behind with 48.3 per cent.

Salford and Preston had the highest rate of low-skilled workers at 39.8 per cent.
