For Sheffield Wednesday saw off in-form Aston Villa with two goals of supreme quality, both of them different but both of them excellent.

Adam Reach, with his third in three games, put the Owls in front in sensational fashion after just 18 seconds with a brilliant first-time strike which flew into the top corner.

And the lead was doubled on 23 minutes when Jordan Rhodes' neat finish capped up some impressive approach play involving Barry Bannan and Gary Hooper.

Chris Samba halved the lead in injury time for Steve Bruce's side but Wednesday were more than worth their win.

"We blocked their dynamic. We prepared very well for the game and didn't give them chances," said head coach Carlos Carvalhal. "My players did absolutely fantastic. We created chances, scored two goals. We could have scored more goals. "We played with quality. I think we performed very well."
