High Hopes for High Green’s own Olympics

Have your say

WE all have high hopes of one day competing in the Olympics.

But you don’t have to wait that long to get into the spirit of the Games.

That’s because the High Hopes Community Group in Sheffield is calling all residents of High Green and surrounding areas to participate in the High Green Games.

High Hopes chairwoman Rachel Picken said that just like London 2012 it should be a great occasion.

She said: “Every year in summer we organise a fun day on Angram Bank Field.

“This year we thought it would be an ideal opportunity to celebrate the Olympics in London by holding our very own High Green Games.

“There will be loads of traditional games for everyone to take part in.

“We have everything from welly-throwing to a tug-of-war.”

The event will also have all the usual attractions including children’s activities, craft and a host of other stalls.

There will be displays by several local community groups, live music as well as hot and cold food and a variety of refreshments.

There will also be information and advice on keeping fit and healthy with the Healthy High Green Health Tent.

The event, on Saturday September 1, is supported by NHS Sheffield, Ecclesfield Parish Council, Carters (Ford) dealers of Chapeltown and Angram Bank TARA.

The day will be launched at noon with a Parade of Nations by young members of the High Hopes Drama Club.
