As part of the operation officers also found 75 grams of heroin at another house in Doncaster.

Four men and one woman have been charged with possession with intent to supply a controlled drug and appeared before Doncaster magistrates yesterday.

Liam Couper, aged 28, Michael Dunstan, 26, and Jamie Hamilton, 28, all of Wolsey Avenue, Intake, Doncaster and Michael Scholey, 40, and Jaqueline Williams, 36, of Conway Terrace, Mexborough, have been charged with possession with intent to supply a controlled drug.

Couper, Dunstan and Hamilton were also charged with producing cannabis.

Hamilton and Scholey have been remanded in custody to appear at Sheffield Crown Court.

A neighbour who witnessed the raid said police remained at the property for a number of hours.

She said: “A police car pulled up about 2pm on Tuesday, I didn’t think nothing of it at the time.

“Then it looked more serious as another three cars turned up about an hour or so later. The police didn’t leave until the evening.”

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Five people from Doncaster have appeared in court after police recovered drugs with an estimated street value of £1 million.

“Officers uncovered the drugs following a search of a property in Doncaster on Wednesday, where approximately 5.7 kilogrammes of class A drug heroin, with an estimated street value of around £1 million, was recovered.

“Five mature cannabis plants and £1,400 in cash were also found in the property.

“Forming a further part of the operation, officers also uncovered 75 grams of heroin at a second house in the Doncaster area.”

Last week a stash of heroin worth £200,000 was found by police officers during a search of a car in Sheffield.

The heroin was discovered when officers pulled over a car on the M1, near Meadowhall.

Steven James Richards, 43, from Hartley Brook Road, Shiregreen, Sheffield, has been charged with possession with intent to supply class A drugs.
