THESE little ducks went out one day - down Ecclesall Road and far away!
A mother duck and her seven tiny ducklings caused chaos yesterday when they left the safety of Endcliffe Park and took a wrong turning down Ecclesall Road.
Motorists were forced to stop as the ducks waddled lost along the street - before being saved by passers-by, a traffic warden, and staff from Italian restaurant Nonna’s.
Hazel Mitchell, aged 25, a barista at Nonna’s, said: “They were in the middle of the road and were holding up all the traffic. Eventually one guy managed to scoop up the mother, and I went into the restaurant and got a box for the babies.”
Hazel said she had trouble popping the seven fluffy ducklings into the box.
“Away from their mum the babies started freaking out and were running off in circles,” she said. “I had to grab them really quickly.”
Back at Endcliffe Park the rescuers set the ducks free in the river.
“The mum looked quite distressed,” said Hazel. “As soon as she was back in the water she knew where she was. She came back for the chicks and they swam off.” together.”
