Helping hand for women

Young women from Rotherham’s Yemeni community are taking part in a voluntary project to help fellow newcomers from the country learn how to access public services in South Yorkshire.

The initiative is being led by the Workers’ Educational Association, which has recruited 10 volunteers with the support of the Rotherham Yemeni Community Association and One Town One Community initiative.

Shirley Allen-Jackson, of the WEA, said: “We are involving women from the Yemeni community who are acting as a link for other women and enhancing their own skills. The volunteers have taken part in successful training sessions.”
