Help to save pubs, says MP

ACTION should be taken to keep more pubs open, Chesterfield’s MP has urged.

Labour politician Toby Perkins, who represents the town and is shadow minister for small business, said up to 25 pubs are shutting each week in Britain.

Pubs have been hit partly by high taxes and also because many are owned by large companies which charge high rents and beer prices.

Mr Perkins said: “Pubs play a vital role in communities, contribute hugely to tax revenues, and employ hundreds of thousands of people.”
