Friends and family of a Sheffield woman currently undergoing treatment in America after a life-threatening illness was misdiagnosed have raised over £14,000 to fund treatment.
Vanessa Boyd, aged 28, is being treated for Lyme Disease after she says medics wrongly diagnosed her as having depression for 12 years.
The former engineer said: “After being told so many times that I was depressed and there was nothing wrong with me, I started to believe it. I was thinking ‘Am I crazy?’ and began to believe it was all in my head.”
Vanessa has now flown to the USA to undergo pioneering treatment.
As the treatment is so expensive, friends and family have organised three fundraisers so far – and have raised over £11,000.
The next event will be held this Sunday, March 20, at The Dronfield Pioneer Club, on Stonelow Road.
The ‘Family Fun Fundraising day’ will take place between 2pm and 5pm.
