He came off the bench to steal a share of the spoils deep in stoppage time against Bristol City at Oakwell.

Wing wizard Hammill loves the big occasion in a Reds’ shirt. He scored at under the famous arch at Wembley twice last season as the club sealed the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and promotion through the play-offs.

And Hammill was at it again to rescue a point against former boss Lee Johnson and his high-flying Robins.

“That was the instruction for him obviously, to go on and change the game,” said Heckingbottom.

“Then as soon as he goes on we instantly concede, which is a nightmare.

“We know he’s capable of moments like that and I’m obviously pleased he grabbed the equaliser.

“He’s got great talent and if there’s anyone you want to have with the ball in that position then it’s Adam Hammill.”

Hammill came under fire during the Reds’ 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United a couple of weeks ago.

His petulant reaction after coming off for Elliot Lee led to Heckingbottom giving him a stern talking to and suggesting he apologised to the fans for his behavior.

Hammill has started on the bench in both games following the episode but Heckingbottom insists the pair have put the incident behind them.

“That incident was done and dusted straight away,” revealed Heckingbottom.

“I speak to Adam all the time. You have different relationships with different players.

“You’ve got to keep pushing them and driving them. It’s about the team and not an individual.”
