In November 2016, Tracy Southern opened House of Eve and in June Hannah Perry followed in her mum’s footsteps and launched HP Brow, Lash and Nail design.

Both run their businesses from their home in Gleadless. It’s hard to imagine when you see the plush chairs, cosy cushions and fancy chandelier, that this high-end, boutique salon used to be a garage.

Tracy said: “You would never know it used to be a garage. Clients say how they felt like they were in a salon atmosphere with affordable prices.”

Hannah added: “Feedback we have received so far has been amazing. When clients walk through the door I think they are expecting to sit in the living room but they are all really pleasantly surprised and love the salon decor.

“ It really is a little haven. It’s has a comfortable, relaxing and friendly atmosphere.”

The pair have worked in the beauty industry for many years. Hannah has been working as a beauty therapist for 10 years, while Tracy has previously worked on a self-employed basis with her mum, Eve - who her brand is named after - for 10 years.

Tracy said: “Working together as mother and daughter enables us to work our diaries together and keep the family tradition ongoing.

“There are always challenges when starting something new from scratch – we kept it simple from the beginning and worked hard and had commitment.

“I would like this to represent a simple but great service with a feel-good family factor.”

Hannah added: “We know each other inside and out, we know what the other’s thinking, we get to spend time with each other -which our previous jobs didn’t allow - and most of all we can see each other happy and passionate about their career.”

The pair pride themselves on offering a high quality salon experience, but also providing a comfortable setting where clients can relax and be themselves - all with a cup of tea and a biscuit.

Tracy said: “The most rewarding part of working from a home setting is that our clients are comfortable.

“If they want to come in their slippers, or straight from the gym, or after having had no sleep they can. We aim to always put them at ease and make sure they leave with a smile on their face.”

Hannah added: “The most rewarding thing for me about starting my own business is seeing how happy clients are. I love putting a smile on people’s faces.”
