Chip shops are frying their best to win a top title in the business.

Whitby’s in Catcliffe, Rotherham, as well as the Fish and Chips outlet in favourite South Yorkshire holiday spot Bridlington, are among those shortlisted for the Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year at the 2015 National Fish and Chip Awards.

Each shop has already been visited by judges and a mystery diner. The contest is organised by Seafish, the authority on seafood.

Paul Williams, chief executive, said: “Last year we witnessed some of the highest calibre of entrants ever.

“The bar is constantly rising and we can’t wait to see the top fryers battle it out this year.”

The 10 finalists will be invited on a study trip to Norway later this year.
