Heartbroken family pay tribute to 'kind and caring' Steven Taylor after tragic motorbike crash

Grieving relatives of a 25-year-old Doncaster man who was killed in a fatal collision in Rotherham in June, are appealing for witnesses to come forward to find out what happened.

Steven Taylor, 25, from Mexborough, died after he was involved in a crash with a pickup truck while riding his motorbike along Carr Lane, Thrybergh on Wednesday, June 24.

The motorcyclist, who was riding a black Honda bike in the direction Kilnhurst, suffered serious head injuries after colliding with a grey Nissan Navara pickup truck which was travelling in the opposite direction at around 3.50pm.

Steven sadly passed away in hospital the following day (Thursday, June 25).

His cousin, Claire Jackson is now urging anyone who saw the collision on the 60mph road to come forward to the police with information.

It comes after South Yorkshire Police issued a fresh appeal for witnesses who were present at the scene, as they continue investigating the fatal crash that cost Steven his life.

Officers say they are particularly keen to speak to a woman they believe is a district nurse and two men who were at the crash.

The two men had been travelling in a black mark 3 Ford Escort, and the woman is reported to have given medical assistance to the injured motorcyclist.

Claire said: “The police were hoping for Steven to wake up to get his account of what happened.

"They’ve only got a few statements and they know there was more people at the scene so they need to speak to everybody to get a true picture.”

Claire, who said Steven and her grew up more like brother and sister, explained how the 25-year-old was always known by his family and friends to be a careful driver.

"He was a really careful and considerate driver, he never took risks, never took chances.

"I don't know how else to describe just how unusually careful he was.”

The accountant who worked at local firm Leesing Marrison Lee and Co, rode motorbikes with his mum, Deb, who is part of a bike pack.

Steven’s cousin is now calling for the 60 mph speed limit on Carr Lane, where he was fatally hit, to be lowered and the condition of the road to be reviewed.

She shared how heartbreaking Steven’s death has been to the people that knew him.

"He was probably one of the nicest people you would meet.

"He was kind, caring, always put others first, never a bad word to say about anybody.

"It's been heartbreaking – it is like a piece of the family is gone.”

The 25-year-old’s family have set up a donation page in his memory to raise money for Sheffield charity, Friends of Ferrals which aim to monitor the wild cat population in the city.

Steven who was known as an animal lover, enjoyed spending time with his rescue cat Gizmo.

Anyone who was present at the scene of the crash or has CCTV or dash cam footage should call police on 101, referencing incident number 678 of 24 June.

Footage should be emailed to officers via [email protected], with the incident number as the subject title.
