Q: As a working mother of two young children, I sometimes find it very hard to juggle both my career and home life and often have trouble sleeping. Is there anything that might help to keep my stress levels to a minimum?

A: When left to spiral out of control, stress can lead to a number of health complaints, such as muscle tension, nervous anxiety and as you’re experiencing, trouble sleeping, so it is important not to let it get the better of you.

Pay close attention to your diet. When we’re feeling stressed it’s all too easy just to grab something on the go, a chocolate bar or a quick snack, when really your body is crying out for the nutrients it needs to cope with the extra pressure.

The B vitamins help to support the nervous system and vitamin C supports the adrenal glands, so increasing your supply of these should make you feel better.

Other essential nutrients include magnesium for the nervous system and iron for energy.
