A RUNNER who used the power of exercise to overcome severe depression is encouraging others to hit the gym to improve their mental health.
Steve Gregory, aged 56, of Shiregreen, Sheffield, spiralled into depression following the death of his parents and the break-down of a relationship in 2006.
Steve got back on his feet thanks to the GP referral scheme at Concord Sports Centre, run by Sheffield International Venues.
The 12-week course is prescribed to patients who need exercise to tackle low and high risk medical conditions, including depression.
Steve is encouraging other people suffering from depression to sign up to the GP Referral Scheme during Depression Awareness Week, which runs until tomorrow.
“Exercising has been totally life changing,” he said. For more information about the GP Referral Scheme call 0114 2574426.
