Three Peak hike success

MORE than 300 walkers flocked to the Peak District to take part in a walking challenge in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The group took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, climbing more than 1,600m up Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough and covering a distance of 25 miles.

Although the rain held off as they completed the mission, the walkers had to battle wet and muddy conditions left over from the previous day’s rainfall to complete the challenge in 14 hours.

Rob Turner, fundraising manager for Macmillan in Sheffield and Chesterfield, thanked everyone who had taken part for their support.

“The dedication and passion that all the walkers showed was truly inspiring to everyone who had the pleasure to witness it,” he said.

“Now that the walkers have had the chance to rest their legs and reflect on their amazing achievement, we’d like to remind them to send in any remaining sponsorship money with their paying-in-slip to the address in their packs.”
