Television presenter Dan Walker is urging football fans to embrace World Cup fever for Make it Better Day to help raise funds to transform Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

So far £3 million has been donated towards the appeal, launched by The Children’s Hospital Charity to fund additional indoor and outdoor space at the hospital.

To help the appeal reach its £10 million target by 2016, Dan, a patron of The Children’s Hospital Charity, is encouraging families, friends and colleagues to come together to watch the upcoming FIFA World Cup tournament while raising vital funds.

Dad-of-three Dan, of Hunters Bar, who has gone to Brazil for the tournament, said: “We are all ready for the World Cup in Brazil and with England’s first match less than a away, why not give it your best shot and get involved with football and a fantastic cause.”

Anyone can take part in Make it Better Day on June 27, by making a direct donation or holding a fun fundraiser, such as a World Cup charity event.

The charity has created a special World Cup 2014 pack filled with fundraising tips and ideas along with a mega wall chart, so fans can keep on top of the scores and see how their team is doing.

Dan added: “I will be bringing a special prize back from the World Cup, which will be given at random to a lucky winner who takes part in our fundraising activities.

“You have to be in it to win it, and every donation small or large will help transform our hospital into a world class facility to match the existing world class care.”
