Stay safe in the water

POLICE cadets in Rotherham are encouraging youngsters to stay safe this summer and avoid the temptations of swimming in the borough’s lakes and reservoirs.

The cadets visited Manvers Lake at Wath and advised young people on the dangers of unsupervised open water swimming.

They also met Paul Bennington and Chris Hawksworth, from Manvers Waterfront Boat Club.

Superintendent Andrew Parker from South Yorkshire Police urged everyone to have fun but be safe.

He said: “We want people to enjoy visiting these beauty spots during the summer holidays, but it is important that everyone acts responsibly at these sites.”
