A TEAM of intrepid fundraisers from a Sheffield shopping centre are taking on a massive challenge in aid of a leading cancer charity.
The determined workers from Crystal Peaks have signed up to the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
On Saturday, July 9 they will scale the three highest peaks in the county – Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough – with the aim of raising hundreds of pounds for the charity, which is celebrating its centenary this year.
Crystal Peaks has signed up to be part of The Star Business Challenge – organised to mark the charity’s 100th anniversary and to encourage firms across South Yorkshire to pick Macmillan as their chosen charity for the year.
Lee Greenwood, centre manager at the centre, said: “Crystal Peaks chose Macmillan as our charity of the year for 2011 in recognition of the fantastic work they carry out both nationally and in our local South Yorkshire region.
“Cancer is something that touches many people’s lives in one way or another and the team at Crystal Peaks are looking forward to taking part in such a brilliant event to help do our bit.
“We know that all our customers will be urging us on to complete the challenge and have been giving generously.”
Rob Turner, fundraising manager for the charity in Sheffield and Chesterfield, added: “We’re delighted the team from Crystal Peaks Shopping Centre are lacing up their boots to walk Miles for Macmillan.
“By taking part and raising the minimum sponsorship, they will be helping to change the lives of people living with cancer.”
