A formidable line up of sporting talent will take part in Sunday’s ‘Run in the Park’ at Sheffield’s Graves Park, in aid of the Weston Park cancer charity.

Sheffield United’s U21 coach Chris Morgan leads a group including Sarah Stevenson, Doncaster’s taekwondo Olympic medal winner, Joslyn Hoyte-Smith, the former Olympics 400m runner, Jason Hewitt, a Sheffield Steelers’ forward and city boxers Adam Etches and Scott Jenkins.

Charity spokeswoman Cassie Melluis said: “It means everything that we have got Chris and the others joining our Run in the Park. Chris has been a patron for years now. He has increased the profile of the charity and spread the message about the vital work that is going on.”

She added: “It is brilliant to see how it makes such a huge difference to their day or even their week, possibly their year.

“They are the heroes of the kids who are receiving treatment there.

“The players have done visits at Christmas time and it has really lifted the spirits of people who sadly have to be in over Christmas.

“Just to see the smiles when they are possibly there for days upon end, and no visitors some of them, it makes a massive difference.”

Cassie said she was encouraging as many people as possible to put their running shoes on for the 10k or 3k events.
