A Sheffield dentist has put down his drill for the last time after retiring following more than 40 years of treating patients.

John Lenton, a partner at Woodhouse Dental Practice, started his training at Sheffield University in the 1960s, and has treated generations of patients during his work across the city.

Colleague Julie Fairfax said John was a ‘marvellous boss’, adding: “He’ll be missed by us all.”

John qualified in 1969 and continued to work in the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, where he took a fellowship in oral surgery until 1973, when he joined the Birks Road practice in Woodhouse as an associate.

“He took ownership of the practice not long after and has worked in Woodhouse ever since,” said Julie.

A year ago, John’s business merged with another local surgery to become Woodhouse Dental Practice.

Julie said: “He says he has no set plans, but knowing him he’ll always be busy, that’s his nature.”
