People affected by breast cancer are invited to put their Best Foot Forward at a new walking group in Sheffield.
The Best Foot Forward Health Walks, hosted by Breast Cancer Care, aim to help people be active and socialise as they continue to battle the disease.
The walks will be held weekly from March 31. Anyone with a diagnosis, and their friends and family aged over 16, are welcome to join the inaugural walk at Graves Park at 10.15am.
Gill Green, aged 58, is one of the trained walk leaders and has been involved in the charity following her own diagnosis with breast cancer 10 years ago.
She said: “I have always been a keen walker but after my diagnosis, it took me some time to regain my fitness levels and confidence in my body.
“I would have loved to be part of a breast cancer walking group at that time, so as soon as I heard of Best Foot Forward, I signed up to volunteer as a walk leader.
“It’s so lovely to be part of a walking group with other people who’ve been affected by breast cancer and can understand how you may be feeling.
“You don’t have to worry about keeping pace and I hope that I can pass my love of walking along to people who join our group.”
Sophie Parslow from Breast Cancer Care said: “It’s really hard to get active after a diagnosis of breast cancer. This offers a relaxed way to start exercising again in a friendly group who have all had a similar experience.”
The group will meet every Tuesday alternating between Graves Park and the Botanical Gardens, as well as monthly Saturday walks being held in different locations.
The walks will follow a route suitable for people of all abilities and will last for 30 minutes to an hour. The walks end in a local cafe for refreshments and a chat.
There is no need to register - just turn up on the day.
