Sheffield MP Clive Betts did the honours by officially opening a new specialist mental health service in the city.
Bowden House, in Darnall, provides residential support for patients, with the aim of getting them back to independent living as quickly as possible.
The new facility can provide care for up to 11 people with conditions such as personality disorders.
Five beds are laid on for emergency cases.
Mr Betts, MP for Sheffield South East, said: “This is a tremendous facility and I welcome the specialist care provision to Sheffield. The focus on rehabilitation and supporting people with mental health needs to integrate into the community is to be welcomed and I wish Bowden House every success.”
The centre’s operator, Craegmoor, has invested £100,000 in the project.
