A RENOVATION project at a Scout hut left badly damaged by harsh winter weather has been given a boost by a donation from a Sheffield opticians.

The £250 cheque from Specsavers at Crystal Peaks will help the 6th Eckington Scouts restore the hut and make it safe for the group to continue their weekly meetings.

The pack is hoping to use the money to kit out the hut, on Castle Hill, with new tables and chairs to replace damaged ones.

Treasurer Gillian Parker said: “We had 61 leaks last winter that did a lot of damage to the hut, which added to the wear and tear of a very old building.

“It could be a long process but the money from Specsavers will really help us on our way to improving the facilities.”

Store director Gil Vasey said: “The 6th Eckington Scouts is important to so many children in the community and when we heard about the desperate need for improvements to the hut, we were delighted to be able to help.”
