GPs in Barnsley have signed up to a new agreement designed to improve services for thousands of patients.
The Practice Delivery Agreement has been organised by the NHS Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group.
The CCG is working with the town’s 36 GP practices to improve care, with initiatives including GPs visiting elderly and housebound people in their homes to offer medication reviews and discuss issues such as end-of-life care.
Dr Nick Balac, chairman of the CCG, said: “The PDA is totally unique and a culture-changer.
“The great work that is going on within GP practices currently is almost like pieces of a jigsaw, and the PDA pulls all those pieces together. The PDA also encourages practices to work more closely together, sharing skill sets and even on occasion, premises – such as with anti-coagulation work.”
