BAR staff from a Sheffield pub will be taking a run in the park to raise money for a city cancer charity after their boss was diagnosed with the disease.

The five-strong team from the Union Hotel in Nether Edge will be headed by landlady Sarah Williams, whose husband Gareth was told he had testicular cancer last year.

They are taking part in the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity Run in the Park 3km event dressed up as the Union Hotel ‘pint pots’.

Dad-of-two Gareth has been receiving chemotherapy at the hospital for seven months and is now awaiting test results which will determine the next path of treatment.

Sarah, who is taking time out from her second job as a staff nurse at the Hallamshire Hospital to help Gareth, said: “Weston Park Hospital is a fantastic place which has not only provided Gareth with excellent care but also endless support to me and our children during this difficult time.

“We wanted to complete the fun run to raise more money for the charity so the hospital can continue to provide more people around the region with care and also carry out vital cancer research.

“I’m sure the team and I will stand out on the day in our pint pot outfits and we hope everyone gets behind us and joins in so we can raise even more money for this fantastic charity.”

The group took part in the Movember campaign last year - raising £4,000 for the hospital and the Prostate Cancer Charity by growing moustaches.

Lyndsey Raynor, fundraiser at Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, said: “Sarah and her team are an inspirational and dedicated group who have continuously helped raise money for the charity.

“The ‘Run in the Park’ event is a fantastic day with a great atmosphere with people from all different backgrounds helping us raise vital funds.”

The events take place on Sunday, July 10, in Graves Park.
