Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United are joining forces and calling on football fans across South Yorkshire to come together for a charity run to support city families living with cancer.

The Sheffield Together 10k builds on the success of last year’s Carlton Palmer 10k run, which involved the ex-England professional footballer launching the run and leading participants around the route, which raised over £18,000.

Both Sheffield football clubs are calling on supporters to get involved in raising funds for Cavendish Cancer Care.

Club mascots Captain Blade and Ozzy the Owl are urging supporters to pull on their running shoes and help raise awareness and funds for the organisation which provides holistic therapies for cancer patients.

David Turner, from the organising committee, said: “Sheffield is a proud city and football is in our blood, however cancer doesn’t care which team you support so it’s fantastic to see our two iconic clubs standing together for one great cause.

“We are so grateful to both Sheffield clubs for helping us to raise the run’s profile, and we hope as many football fans as possible from both clubs choose to support the event.

“We can’t wait to see Ecclesall Woods filled with both blue and red supporters.”

The 10k run will start at 10am on Sunday, November 23.
