Opening up the cinema

Have your say

A SHEFFIELD cinema is taking part in a national campaign raising awareness of the sensory differences experienced by people with learning disabilities and autism.

The Odeon cinema in Arundel Gate will screen Mr Popper’s Penguins at 11am on August 11 as part of the Autism Friendly Films scheme, an initiative run with the Dimensions support organisation for people with autism and learning disabilities.

The partnership will mean people who can sometimes be excluded from the cinema – because the lights and volume are difficult for them to manage – are able to watch the film in an environment that meets their needs.

Steve Barnett of Dimensions Sheffield, said: “This will hopefully get people talking and thinking about other ways society can become more inclusive.”
