Nick’s Night Strollers are aiming to raise at least £1,000 at the St Luke’s Hospice Starlight Walk.
The team are all walking in memory of 49-year-old Crookes man Nick Milton, who died at Sheffield’s only hospice last year.
Nick’s family and friends were so impressed by the support Nick received from the hospice they signed up for the 2012 Starlight Walk, the 5k sponsored evening stroll from Endcliffe Park to Forge Dam and back.
This year Nick’s Night Strollers will be back, aiming to raise even more cash.
“We really enjoyed it last year and there was a really fantastic atmosphere so we wanted to do it again,” said Nick’s daughter Gemma.
“At first we thought it might be a bit sad but when you see all those people walking in memory of people they have loved, it feels good.”
The hospice wants more than 1,000 walkers to generate at least £100 each in sponsorship and raise at least £100,000 for the charity.
This year’s walk, on Saturday, July 13, will begin at 9pm just as the stars begin to appear, but from 6.30pm there will be music, food and a Thornbridge beer tent, with a mass warm-up at 8.30pm.
Registration is £15 for adults. Visit St Lukes Hospice or pick up a form from the hospice or any of the St Luke’s shops, fill it in, and return it to St Luke’s.
