New chapter for Sheffield disabled staff

Have your say

FOUR disabled workers are being retrained to carry out garden improvements by their employer Kier Sheffield.

The new team is made up of four members previously employed by Kier’s manufacturing unit, Sharrow Industries. All have disabilities ranging from epilepsy to deafness and will work on the Kier Garden Pledge programme in the Wybourn area on behalf of landlord Penning Housing.

Supervisor Mark Shaw has started to learn sign language to communicate more easily with his team.

One team member said: “We were used to working in a manufacturing environment but we are now thoroughly enjoying our new outdoor roles.

“Our supervisor has been fantastic helping us to learn new skills.”
