An MP has said she is ‘extremely concerned’ about the future of an under-threat dental practice serving more than 1,500 patients.
Angela Smith, who represents Penistone and Stocksbridge, said letters have been sent to patients of the Deepcar Dental Clinic telling them the practice will only undertake dental work that has already started and advising residents to look for new providers. She is now calling for the NHS to allow services to continue.
She said: “I am extremely concerned at the situation in which the Deepcar Dental Clinic and its patients find themselves. The alternative practices suggested by the NHS are situated some distance away from Deepcar and are not easily reached by public transport.”
She added: “The Deepcar Dental Clinic was opened only a few years ago and provides a very important service to our local area. If this modern practice were to close its doors there would be a shortage of provision, and indeed this is already being felt by the many Deepcar residents who are encountering difficulties in finding a new NHS dentist. I call on the NHS to reach a solution which will ensure that dental provision continues at Deepcar.”
