Barnsley MP Michael Dugher is calling for a replacement GP practice to be found urgently following the closure of a surgery with 3,400 registered patients.

Shafton Medical Centre in Shafton, Barnsley, closed after the leaseholder gave notice for the Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust to vacate the premises.

Mr Dugher said: “It is very concerning to hear of the loss of a vital GP facility in Shafton, especially at a time when it is harder for patients to see a GP under this Government.

“Any switch in practices must be temporary and plans need to be drawn up swiftly for a permanent replacement GP facility.”
