Recovery plans for a financially-troubled South Yorkshire hospital trust have been welcomed by an MP.
Wentworth and Dearne MP John Healey had voiced fears Rotherham Hospitals NHS Trust could be merged with a neighbouring trust, potentially threatening the future of the district hospital.
Rotherham Hospitals Trust board accepted a rescue plan which would keep control in local hands rather than a potential merger - an alternative proposed by the Department of Health.
Labour MP Mr Healey said: “The board are right to pursue a plan that keeps Rotherham as a stand-alone hospital working closely with other parts of the NHS. I hope it means changes in the way the hospital works rather than cutbacks in services.
“I want to avoid forced redundancies.”
