More than 1,000 people in South Yorkshire sought help from Macmillan Cancer Support last year, new figures have revealed.

The charity received phone calls to its support line from 1,058 people in the county.

Of those, the majority of calls were requests for clinical information and emotional support, while others rang with queries about welfare and to get financial guidance.

Fay Scullion, general manager for the East Midlands and Northern England, said: “This is only one of our many services.

“More and more people are surviving cancer and while that is great news, Macmillan is calling on the next government to prevent the soaring number of cancer patients pushing the NHS to its limit.”
