LABOUR leader Ed Miliband has waded into the controversy surrounding the planned closure of a specialist heart unit which treats South Yorkshire children.
The Doncaster North MP is demanding reassurances over the possible closure of the children’s heart unit at Leeds General Infirmary.
Mr Miliband said many people felt they had questions which had not yet been answered.
He urged Health Secretary Andrew Lansley to do more to provide answers to patients’ questions and reassure them they will continue to have access to the high quality care.
Mr Miliband said: “I know how strongly people across Doncaster feel about this.
“Patients and the public must be confident that when change goes ahead in the NHS it is for the right reasons and will not take from them the high-quality services they have come to rely on.
“It is clear Health Secretary Andrew Lansley must do more to answer people’s specific concerns and to demonstrate to people from across Yorkshire this reorganisation will not be to their detriment.”
