Isle MP Andrew Percy is demanding action on the lack of effective national control on senior pay in the NHS.

The Conservative politician claimed this results in NHS trusts being forced to pay very high salaries to prevent good managers being poached and effectively creates bidding wars for senior managers.

He has now written to the Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt MP, calling for action.

He said: ““Many constituents have contacted me regarding a recent local NHS pay issue.

“Staggeringly, the salary that has been subject to much scrutiny locally isn’t out of step with other NHS trusts.

“The last decade and a half saw a massive explosion of senior pay in the NHS and public services which Ministers at the time failed to respond to properly.”

The MP added: “My constituents expect NHS money to be prioritised for patient care and for clinical and nursing staff.

“Our local hospital trust has increased the number of nurses whilst reducing management costs.

“They deserve credit for that. However, it is clear that there needs to be action on a national level to limit the salaries of those at the top.“
