Hospital deadline set

BOSSES at troubled Rotherham Hospital have been set a deadline to deliver an action plan setting out how they plan to save the organisation.

Health chiefs have until March 18 to send the plan to health regulator Monitor.

The watchdog told Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust it must improve its finances as it faced a £38m deficit by 2015/16.

Monitor also said failures in a new electronic appointment system could have delayed treatments for cancer patients.

Problems with the system meant the 62-day target between cancer patients being diagnosed and receiving their first treatment had been breached, while 5,000 outpatient appointments were also missed. The system could now cost as much as £40m.
