PATIENTS needing a scan for osteoporosis are benefiting from a hi-tech new scanner at a South Yorkshire hospital.

Mount Vernon Hospital, Barnsley, is using the machine to help people with osteoporosis and those who have suffered falls.

The new scanner offers a lateral view of bone density, enabling medics to better diagnose osteoporosis and monitor fractures at an early stage. Patients are then less likely to need another appointment for an X-ray, reducing radiation exposure.
