Heat is on for marathon fund-raisers

Have your say

A RADIOGRAPHER from Sheffield will be pounding the pavements around the capital on Sunday when he takes part in the London marathon wearing a full bomb disposal suit.

John Bedford will be attempting to break the Guinness world record for the fastest marathon in the gear which weighs 55lb.

It is likely to see his core body temperature rise to 39.5 degrees.

John, aged 24, will be raising money for The Soldiers’ Charity.

Joining him in the 26-mile race will be Marie Walker, who grew up in Gleadless.

The 30-year-old will be raising money for Sheffield Children’s Hospital charity.

She underwent major hip surgery at the hospital as a child.

Marie, who now lives in Willerby, near Hull, has never forgotten the care she received there - and particularly celebrating her 14th birthday on the ward.

She said: “I am hoping to raise £500 because Sheffield Children’s Hospital is a place very close to my heart.”
