Heart surgery petition delivered

Have your say

A PETITION which contains the names of thousands of concerned parents from across South Yorkshire has been delivered to Downing Street calling for a re-think on plans to close children’s heart surgery units.

The proposals will see the number of units cuts from 11 to six or seven, with the facility at Leeds General Infirmary - where patients from the region are treated - at risk of being shut down.

Protesters from the Save Our Surgery campaign, based in Yorkshire, travelled to the capital to deliver the petition containing 500,000 names asking for services to be saved in Leeds. If it is closed, parents and their children from across Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster would have to travel to Newcastle or Birmingham for treatment.
